Police arrest man suspected of setting 64-year-old Alexandria woman on fire

WASHINGTON — The man accused of setting a 64-year-old woman on fire last month has been taken into custody near Richmond, Virginia, the Fairfax County Police Department said Thursday evening.

Police suspect Edward Reeder of setting Delores Williams, of the Woodlawn area of Alexandria, on fire during an argument Nov. 19.

Earlier Thursday, police announced Williams had died of her injuries. Two other people in her home were treated for smoke inhalation after the incident.

Reeder had fled, police said, and evaded authorities for nearly two weeks.

Fairfax County police said a citizen’s tip led to Reeder’s arrest. Monica Meeks, a spokeswoman for the police, said that “another agency near Richmond” received the tip, and was able to “ping his phone,” found Reeder and arrested him.
