Woody Allen unveils trailer for new European rom-com (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON – Woody Allen has a new movie and, shockingly, it’s a quirky critique of romance set in Europe.

It’s a pretty big stretch for the director, who in recent years produced “Midnight in Paris,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and “Match Point,” among many others.

“To Rome with Love” stars Alec Baldwin and Allen himself, leading a cast of up-and-comers like Jesse Eisenberg of “The Social Network” and Ellen Page from “Juno” and “Inception.” Veterans Penelope Cruz and Roberto Benigni round out the ensemble and add some authentic European flair.

The comedy was thought to be a modern-day remake of Giovanni Boccaccio’s “The Decameron,” a 14th-century Italian story. Allen affirms his film has no connection to the medieval allegory.
