New Va. state transportation map available

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia officials say the state’s new transportation map is now available.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said more than 2 million maps are available at state welcome centers and by request at safety rest areas. State maps also are available at VDOT offices across the state.

The agency collaborated with the Virginia Department of Forestry and the Virginia Tourism Corporation to develop the map. It features the centennial of the state’s forestry system with pictures and information about several state forests. Officials say the forestry system was established for the primary purpose of reforestation and the prevention of forest fires.

A map showing the state’s highway system is required by Virginia law and has been published since 1922.
