2 whales die along Puerto Rico’s southwest coast

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Government officials in Puerto Rico are investigating the deaths of two of three pilot whales that stranded themselves in the island’s southwest region.

Puerto Rico police said the whales stranded themselves Wednesday in Playa Sucia, one of the U.S. territory’s most popular beaches.

Natural Resources Secretary Carmen Guerrero said biologists are trying to return the whale that survived back to sea. She said biologists believe one of the whales became sick and that the two others followed it to shore.
