St. Louis made a brief announcement during Tuesday night’s game against the Pirates.

The 37-year-old Girsch is in his fourth season as assistant GM under John Mozeliak with the Cardinals. He joined the team as coordinator of amateur scouting in 2006.

The Padres fired Josh Byrnes on June 22.
