WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals are an anomaly when it comes to extra innings.

Since the beginning of the 2013 season, they are an impressive 9-7 on the road in extra-inning contests, a winning percentage of .563. In comparison, the league as a whole has won at almost exactly a 50-50 clip (170 wins, 169 losses) on the road in extra innings the past two years.

However, somehow the Nats have not won any of their last nine home extra-inning affairs. They have been beaten by the Braves (twice), Twins, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Padres, Reds, Marlins and now Orioles since their last extra-inning home win. That came September 8, 2012, when Washington defeated Miami, 7-6 in 10 innings.

The Nationals are also just 2-8 overall in extra frames this year, the worst mark in the Major Leagues of any team that has played past nine innings at least five times.

The good news? Washington is 46-32 in nine-inning games, second only to the Los Angeles Dodgers (48-32) in the National League.
