FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Bail has been set at $1.1 million each for twin brothers charged with murder in the death of a Good Samaritan who was run over after trying to rescue a woman being assaulted in California.

The Fresno Bee reported (http://bit.ly/1kAoMi2 ) that a judge set bail Tuesday for 18-year-old brothers Gerald and Jared Smith at an arraignment hearing that was continued until July 23.

Police say the brothers were assaulting a 35-year-old woman at a Fresno gas station last week when 49-year-old Nathan Halsted tried to help.

Police say surveillance video shows the brothers attacking Halsted, leaving him in the street, where a driver fatally struck him.

The teens’ attorney, Daljit Rakkar, said the video was dark and grainy, and it would be hard to establish the identities of the attackers.
