DAMASCUS, Va. (AP) — A Southwest Virginia town plans to mark the Appalachian Trail’s route with commemorative bricks.

Damascus will include the bricks in a project to repave downtown sidewalks along the trail’s path.

Project manager Brady Adcock tells The Bristol Herald Courier (http://bit.ly/1mXv23o ) that 2,180 bricks will be available for sale. That’s one for every mile along the trail.

Proceeds from the bricks’ sale will be split among the town, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and a local trail club.

Damascus Mayor Jack McCrady says the town will use its share of the money to offset matching grant funds for beautification projects.

Bricks can be ordered online at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s website, www.appalachiantrail.org/pathway .
