Maicon to start for Brazil against Colombia

FORTALEZA, Brazil (AP) — Maicon will start in Brazil’s defense instead of Dani Alves when the host team faces Colombia on Friday in the World Cup quarterfinals.

Maicon has yet to play at this year’s tournament.

Also, Paulinho will replace suspended defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo, who was shown his second yellow card in the second-round match against Chile.

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman made two changes to the team that beat Uruguay, adding Victor Ibarbo and Fredy Guarin to the lineup.

James Rodriguez, who scored twice against Uruguay at the Maracana Stadium in the second round, is in the lineup as expected.
