WASHINGTON – A police officer shot and killed a suspect in southeast D.C. Wednesday afternoon.

D.C. police say the officer was responding to the 500 block of 51st Street SE for a drug complaint around 2:30 p.m.

A man in a group standing on the street pulled a gun and started firing on the officer. The officer fired back, striking the man.

The man died of his injuries. No police officers were injured.

A police spokesman wasn’t sure if the other men in the group were arrested, or if other officers were involved.

The investigation is still ongoing.
