AP PHOTOS: Fans wince, cheer from DC to Berlin

In alleys, bars and public viewing parties, fans of the Germany and U.S. World Cup Soccer teams waved flags, cheered and flinched as the teams battled it out in Thursday’s match.

Tens of thousands of U.S. fans extended their lunch hours to watch, perhaps taking advantage of U.S. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s online note that asked bosses to give their employees time off to support the home team.

Here’s a gallery of images of fans in the U.S. and Germany as both teams advanced to the knockout stage of the World Cup. Germany beat the U.S. 1-0.
