Webb, Kuipers to referee all-South America clashes

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — European referees will handle two all-South American matches on Saturday as the knockout stage gets underway at the World Cup.

FIFA has picked Howard Webb of England to referee Brazil vs. Chile in Belo Horizonte which opens the round of 16.

Webb handled the 2010 World Cup final.

FIFA says on its website that Bjorn Kuipers of the Netherlands will referee Uruguay vs. Colombia at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Kuipers refereed the Champions League final last month and the Confederations Cup final last year.

In this tournament, Webb previously handled Colombia’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast.

Kuipers refereed Italy beating England 2-1 and France’s 5-1 win against Switzerland.
