Cadet charged with stealing from evidence room

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Baltimore County Police have charged a cadet with stealing drugs and money from the department’s evidence room.

Police arrested 20-year-old Nicholas Ishmael of Parkville Tuesday at headquarters. Officers say he was carrying $40,000 in cash in a backpack when he was arrested.

Ishmael is charged with 10 offenses, including theft and possession with intent to distribute narcotics. He is being held on $650,000 bail.

Police say the department began an audit of the evidence room in April, when a detective was unable to get evidence for a drug case. Authorities say an internal investigation was started and included surveillance of the evidence room.

Officers say stole Ishmael cocaine, morphine, Oxycodone and Alprazolam.

Online court records do not list a lawyer for Ishmael.
