US falls 3-2 to Bulgaria in World League play

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) — Skirmov Todor had 17 points and Bulgaria handed the U.S. men’s volleyball team its first loss in World League play with a 3-2 victory Saturday night.

Sokolov Tsvetan added 14 points in the 26-24, 25-17, 14-25, 13-25, 15-12 victory, Bulgaria’s first in this year’s World League.

Taylor Sander had 18 points for the United States, which is 7-1 in pool play in the international tournament. Matt Anderson added 15 in the match at the Sears Center Arena.

The U.S. men, who are ranked No. 4 in the world and vying for a spot in the World League final round next month in Florence, Italy, now head overseas to face Russia next weekend.
