2 NC women die in Va. crash; 4 people injured

EMPORIA, Va. (AP) — Two North Carolina women were killed and four people were injured when a car and a tractor-trailer collided at a highway intersection in southern Virginia.

State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya says 20-year-old Shasta Edwards of Margarettsville, North Carolina, died at the scene of the Saturday morning crash. Nineteen-year-old Anna Buchanan died later at Southside Regional Hospital.

Anaya says Edwards and Buchanan were passengers in a Nissan Altima that went through a stop sign at the intersection of Route 301 and Route 626 near Emporia and hit the tractor trailer. The car’s driver, 21-year-old Devonte K. Riddick of Seaford, North Carolina, and three passengers were seriously injured. Anaya says charges are pending.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/UYCEgh ) that the tractor-trailer driver was not injured.
