FIFA picks Irmatov to referee Croatia-Mexico

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — FIFA has picked Ravshan Irmatov to referee the Croatia vs. Mexico game in Recife on Monday that will send at least one team into the World Cup’s second round.

The Uzbekistani official previously handled Switzerland’s 2-1 win over Ecuador, and five 2010 World Cup matches.

Group A leader Brazil’s game against Cameroon will be refereed by Jonas Eriksson of Sweden in Brasilia. Eriksson previously refereed the United States’ 2-1 win over Ghana.

FIFA also says Bakary Gassama of Gambia will referee the Netherlands vs. Chile match in Sao Paulo on Monday to decide the Group B winner.

Nawaf Shukralla of Bahrain will handle Australia vs. Spain in Curitiba. Both teams are already eliminated.

Both Gassama and Shukralla will work their first match in Brazil.
