WASHINGTON — A Prince George’s County man is now facing manslaughter charges after the infant he’s suspected of abusing died of his injuries.

Lenwood Pearson, 48, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was previously charged with first- and second-degree child abuse after paramedics were called to Pearson’s home Sept. 13 and discovered his critically injured step-grandson.

The baby died Sept. 16. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was trauma to the baby’s head, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Police said they believe the infant was injured while in Pearson’s “sole care and custody.”

In addition to the manslaughter and child abuse charges, Pearson is facing first- and second-degree assault charges. Pearson has been arrested and is being held in the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
