Wal-Mart fire intentionally set

WASHINGTON — A fire at the Wal-Mart at the Chantilly Shopping Center in Fairfax County was intentionally set, fire investigators say.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue received the call about the small fire around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The store had to be evacuated, but an employee put out the fire using a fire extinguisher before the firefighters arrived. Store workers were allowed back in to clean up around 8:45 p.m., InsideNoVa reports.

Police on Wednesday initially said the fire appeared suspicious. Damage is estimated at $1,000.

Fairfax Fire and Rescue Capt. Randy Bittinger said there was no bomb. Fairfax County Police’s Ordnance Disposal Team was investigating to find a device that supposedly started the fire.
