Police identify suspect arrested in U.Md. shooting

WASHINGTON — Police have released the name of the suspect arrested in the armed robbery at a hotel and conference center on the campus of University of Maryland, College Park in which a security guard was shot and injured.

Jamal Ulysses Green, 24, of D.C., was arrested on Tuesday and charged in connection to the armed robbery that took place earlier that day at the University of Maryland University College Inn and Conference Center, campus police said. The hotel and conference center sits in the area of Adelphi Road and University Boulevard.

Green, along with another suspect, made off with several portable safes from the back of the conference center shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday. The guard ws shot during the robbery, and is still in the hospital, where campus police say he is recovering.

Green was arrested in a wooded area across from the conference center, and three of the safes and a gun were found nearby. He’s been charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, armed robbery and other offenses.

The police are still looking for the second suspect.
