WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation has named a new president and CEO.

Washington College President Mitchell B. Reiss will succeed Colin G. Campbell on Oct. 6. Campbell announced his plans to retire earlier this year after 14 years as CEO and president.

Besides serving as president of the Chestertown, Maryland, liberal arts college, Reiss taught at the school of law at the College of William and Mary and is a national security expert.

Campbell oversaw a $200 million investment by the foundation to modernize hospitality facilities and directed a shift in programming to new media and digital devices.

The foundation preserves and operates Virginia’s 18th century capital of Williamsburg. The foundation oversees a tourist attraction that features more than 400 restored or reconstructed original buildings.

Reiss’ appointment was announced Tuesday.
