Report: Opera singer cited for noise violation in Alexandria

WASHINGTON – An opera singer hit the wrong note with Alexandria police on Friday night.

NBC Washington reports, opera singer Krista Clouse was using a speaker to amplify her voice as she sang on the sidewalk near King and Lee streets in Old Town –where she was arrested  for violating the city’s noise ordinance.

Clouse, who claims she was simply expressing her First Amendment rights, told NBC Washington that she sings to earn tips to help support her family.

She was singing a scene from “Evita” while police conducted the arrest,  as this cell phone footage posted on YouTube shows.
