WASHINGTON — Fairfax County Public Schools will activate a new notification system for bus delays when students return to classes Tuesday. Parents will be notified about bus delays through email, social media and other communications channels such as the FCPS Mobile App.

Buses delayed by at least 15 minutes will be listed online. Individual schools within the Fairfax County system have their own transportation offices that can be reached by phone.

Similarly, public schools in Loudoun County, Virginia, have a system that notifies parents about late buses via phone and email, spokesman Wayde Byard said.

In Maryland, the public school system in Prince George’s County has a pilot program planned for late bus notifications at five schools.

“We are rolling out our ‘Late Bus Alert’ system in phases this year,” spokeswoman Raven Hill said. Subscribers will receive text messages or emails.

Maryland’s largest school system, Montgomery County Public Schools, does not have a late bus notification system.
