On June 15 in World Cup history: Hungary puts record 10 past El Salvador in Elche, Spain, in 1982.

Hungary scored the most goals in a single World Cup match when it put 10 past El Salvador in their opening group game in 1982. Despite the 10-1 win, which saw substitute Laszlo Kiss score a seven-minute hat trick, Hungary failed to progress to the next round. Hungary, a two-time losing finalist, hasn’t qualified since 1986. El Salvador, which has lost all six matches it has played in the two World Cups it has participated in, hasn’t qualified since 1982.
