WASHINGTON — Police arrested a man they say stabbed a pregnant woman in Montgomery County Wednesday afternoon.

At about 3:19 p.m., a man stabbed a pregnant woman in a wooded area of Kensington, Maryland, behind the 3000 block of Upton Drive. Nearly an hour later, police arrested a suspect at the intersection of Palmira Lane and Dauphine Street in Aspen Hill after he got off a bus — about four miles away from the original scene, said Montgomery County Police spokesman Paul Starks.

When police approached the suspect, he tried to run, and police used a stun gun to subdue him, Starks said.

According to police, the pregnant woman, 19, agreed to meet the suspect, 18, who is in a relationship with her, although police cannot confirm now whether he is the father of her baby. The suspect’s motive for the stabbing is still not known.

Emergency crews transported the woman to an area hospital. She has serious injuries, but is expected to be OK, said Starks.
