Del Worsham leads Funny Car qualifying

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) — Del Worsham raced to the Funny Car qualifying lead Friday in a rain-shortened session in the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.

Persistent rain forced NHRA officials to cancel the second session midway through Funny Car’s final attempt.

Brittany Force had the Top Fuel lead, and Shane Gray topped the Pro Stock lineup.

Worsham, the 2011 Top Fuel season champion, set both ends of the track record in his Toyota Camry with a 3.992-second run at 319.45 mph. He has three career victories at Bristol.

Force had a 3.828 at 317.94, and Gray finished in 6.644 at 207.88 in a Chevy Camaro.
