Bay Bridge shut down caused by police car crash

WASHINGTON — Maryland’s Route 50 was shut down in both directions for several hours on Wednesday just east of the Bay Bridge because of a serious car crash.

A Maryland Transportation Authority police officer’s car was hit while the officer was parked on the shoulder of the eastbound side 12 p.m.

Both the officer and the driver of the second car were flown to shock trauma in Baltimore.

The officer is in serious but stable condition and the driver of the second car is in serious condition.

A spokesman for Maryland Transportation Authority Police says they don’t know what caused the second car to leave the roadway.
