Border Patrol rescues 4 immigrants lost for days

FALFURRIAS, Texas (AP) — U.S. Border Patrol agents have rescued four immigrants lost for days on rugged ranchlands without food or water in South Texas.

The Border Patrol says the group was found Monday near Falfurrias (fal-FYOO’-ree-uhs) by a search-and-rescue team after crossing the border illegally and wandering the rural terrain for four days. Someone in the group finally called 911.

The agency says a 27-year-old woman collapsed while walking and was resuscitated by emergency personnel. She was taken to a hospital.

Additional Border Patrol agents recently were temporarily assigned to the Rio Grande Valley sector, with about 20 responsible for search-and-rescue operations. The agency says the rescue teams respond to “numerous” calls from immigrants who need assistance after becoming lost.
