Fla. man charged with sexually assaulting children in Manassas

WASHINGTON – A Florida man has been charged with sexually assaulting two children in Manassas, wrapping up a case that dates back decades.

Lawrence E. Runion, 64, of Acadia, Florida, was extradited to Virginia and served with long-standing warrants. He faces two counts of aggravated sexual battery, two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, according to Manassas City Police.

Runion assaulted the two children between 1975 and 1977 however police did not begin investigating the cases until 1997, police say.

Police named Runion as a suspect in 2009, when he was serving time for separate charges in Florida.
