Remember all the great memories of going to summer camp when you were a kid? And sharing those memories with your kids?

Many kids in our area don’t have these memories…so WTOP is teaming up with the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington to Help Send a Kid to Camp!

Thousands of local children miss out on the growth and adventure of summer camp simply for financial reasons. These same kids are at risk of unhealthy and unsafe behavior when the final school bell rings.

But YOU can help! Just $50 pays for a day of camp for an area child…and $250 will send a child for a week!

YMCA camp programs offer a fun and unique experience that gives children and teens the opportunity to meet new friends, explore nature, discover new interests, be physically active and create memories that last a lifetime.

To ensure that all kids have this opportunity, the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington offers scholarships and subsidies to help parents in need send their child to camp. In 2013, 2,897 children received $481,395 in scholarships, affording them priceless summer growth and memories. Without YCamp, summers for low-income kids are built on lost learning, bad role models, weight gain and harmful choices in recreation. The emotional, practical and academic development they can receive because of donors is unique and life-shaping.
