One Extraordinary Photo: Ski jumper streaks through the air

PREDAZZO, Italy (AP) — Matthias Schrader has been working as a photographer for 30 years, 18 of them for The Associated Press, based in Munich. He is currently covering his 10th Olympic Games and has covered world and European Championships in soccer, track and field, and numerous winter sports.

Why this photo?

Taking these pictures is always a mixture of trial, luck and skill. After all the standard shots of the ski jumping competition and the reactions at the finish line, we also do features around the jumping hill. That includes these long exposures.

How I made this photo

I took the photo with the new Sony 50-150mm lens. With an exposure of 1/5s at f/11 and ISO 50.

Why this photo works

These pictures are always eye-catching and stand out. They are an opportunity for us photographers to show that photojournalism and sports photography are also art.

Australian watchdog files legal action against Telegram, saying it failed to remove violent content

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Australia’s online safety watchdog has filed legal action against messaging app Telegram, saying the platform failed to remove extremist content including videos of white supremacist mass shootings in Buffalo, New York, and the New Zealand city of Christchurch as well as Islamic State group beheadings. The United Arab Emirates-based app, which reports having 1 billion users worldwide, faces a fine of up to 54.6 million Australian dollars ($38 million) if convicted in the Australian Federal Court for “alleged failure to detect and remove pro-terror material,” eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said Thursday. The civil action is a test of Australia's 2021 law requiring tech platforms to work to keep illegal and pro-terrorism material off their networks. Telegram denied the claims. “We reject these allegations and will contest them in court,” a spokesperson said in a written statement sent on Telegram.
