A man was shot after D.C. police said he tried to stop a group of teenagers from stealing someone’s motor scooter in Northwest Monday night.

D.C. police said it happened near the busy intersection of 14th and S Street at around 7:30 p.m.

Three teenagers tried to take another person’s scooter. When the man tried to intervene, one of the teens shot him before running away on foot, according to police.

Authorities said the man was conscious and breathing when he was taken to the hospital. His current condition isn’t known.

Police said they have not found the suspects.
