At least eight people were shot at two locations in Southeast on Friday night, according to D.C. police. At the first shooting scene, at the 500 block of Lebaum Street SE, D.C. police received reports of gunshots in the area around 10 p.m., Assistant Chief Andre Wright said at a news conference. It was initially reported that six people were shot. D.C. police then clarified that seven men were shot and should recover from their injuries. However, D.C. Fire and EMS said earlier in the night they transported three men to hospitals with life-threatening injuries and three were taken with non-life-threatening injuries. The assistant chief said police are searching for a dark-colored sedan in connection to the shooting. He said that witnesses saw indiscriminate gunfire come from the car as the driver traveled through the 500 block of Lebaum Street. Wright said their preliminary investigation indicates shots only came from the vehicle.

In the other shooting at the 2900 block of Second Street SE, a 12-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to her lower extremities, and was able to walk into a hospital. “Thank god, she’s also stable,” Wright said. Wright said, based on the short proximity between both locations, the two shootings could be connected. Police are continuing to investigate the shooting and are working to develop a motive. “We have no idea what the motive is. I can assure you, though, that we are going to get to the bottom of this.
