A 15-year-old boy who was wounded in a shooting that left a woman dead is now facing a murder charge, according to D.C. police.
The teenager was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder while armed, following Tuesday’s deadly shooting in the 5000 block of Benning Road Southeast that left Dale Henson, 54, of Southeast, dead.
D.C. police said officers arrived at the location just before 9 p.m. to find a woman, a man and a teenager who had all been shot.
Sixth District D.C. Police Commander Darnel Robinson said Henson was shot in the head. She was taken to the medical examiner’s office.
The man was struck in the leg, while the teenager was hit in the shoulder, Robinson said during a news conference Tuesday night. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police said in a news release that after the teenager was shot, he took out a gun, discharged it several times, striking Henson.
WTOP’s news partner NBC Washington reports that Henson, a mother, was picking up dinner for her niece, whose boyfriend was recently killed due to gun violence.
