1 killed in Fairfax Co. shooting on New Year’s Eve

Police in Fairfax County, Virginia, said an unidentified man was killed during a shooting on New Year’s Eve. The shooting happened Saturday at around 7:30 p.m. in the 9500 block of Unity Lane in Lorton, after receiving reports that a man had been shot.



Officers said, in a preliminary statement, that a man was found inside and dead, with multiple gunshots to his upper body.

During a press conference, a spokesperson for the department asked for the public’s help in identifying any suspects in the case. A map of the approximate shooting location is included below. Sanity evaluation pending, ‘shopping cart killer’ suspect seeks trial delay

The lawyer for “shopping cart killer” suspect Anthony Eugene Robinson has asked a judge to delay an August trial because he has yet to receive a mental health evaluation to determine whether Robinson was insane when he allegedly killed two women in the Harrisonburg, Virginia, area in 2021. As first reported by WTOP, defense attorney Louis Nagy is weighing an insanity defense and could argue his client was not guilty by reason of insanity in the deaths of 54-year-old Beth Redmon of Harrisonburg, and 39-year-old Tonita Smith of Charlottesville.
