A Remington, Virginia, woman is charged with embezzling money from a Boy Scout troop.
Michelle Clark, 46, was arrested Tuesday and is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 1171 in Remington over a six-month period. She was the official responsible for the handling of funds for the troop.
Clark faces charges of felony embezzlement for the misappropriation of more than $1,500 in troop funds, according to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division. It said over $7,000 in questionable spending was also identified.
The sheriff’s office said its investigation showed transactions ranging from “small purchases at fast food restaurants” to hundreds spent on “personal utility bills,” all funds that were supposed to be used for troop-related expenses.
Clark was a full-time teacher at Liberty High School in Bealeton for 20 years and has been placed on administrative leave, according to the director of communications of the county’s public school system.
Clark, who was released on bond, has an arraignment hearing scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 4.
