A man died from gunshot wounds after a shooting near Nationals Park on Sunday afternoon that police said was a targeted attack. Kavaughn Washington, 31, of Oxon Hill, Md., was shot in a car around 1 p.m. Sunday near South Capitol and N streets in Southeast, the D.C. police said Monday. Cmdr. Tasha Bryant of the Metropolitan Police Department held a news conference Sunday, in which she said detectives think Washington was the target of the attack, and that a dark-colored SUV was captured on camera fleeing the scene at high speed after the shooting.

No other victims or property damage have been reported, Bryant added. “We need our citizens and visitors to help us [with] any information that can help us solve this case,” Bryant said. “It’s game day. I want everyone to feel comfortable coming here and enjoying this beautiful city, [seeing] the restaurants and watching the games.”
