What to do around DC this Labor Day

With Labor Day weekend underway, here are some ways to spend the long weekend in the D.C. area.



The Labor Day Parade in Gaithersburg will celebrate the unofficial end of summer, following a two-year hiatus. The annual parade, which features high school marching bands, fire engines and dance groups begins Monday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m.

Greenbelt’s Labor Day Festival features a table tennis tournament, carnival rides, and a basketball contest. It takes place through Monday, Sept. 5. A parade is scheduled on Monday, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Labor Day Art Show at Glen Echo Park will be held at the park’s Spanish Ballroom through Monday, Sept. 5. The free event features sculptures, paintings, drawings and other works from over 200 artists across the mid-Atlantic region.

Old Town Fairfax hosts its annual Labor Day Car Show on Monday, Sept. 5. The free event features antique wheels, muscle cars, motorcycles and trucks

The Maryland State Fair at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium is being held through Monday, Sept. 5. Gates open at 9 a.m. Catch a live simulcast of horse racing, featuring a 5/8th mile oval track in the Timonium OTB Center. Ride wristbands cost $35 on Friday and Sunday, $38 on Monday.

In Anne Arundel County, the Maryland Renaissance Festival is being held near Annapolis in Crownsville through Monday, Sept. 5. Events and performances take place each day between 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are $24 for adults (ages 16 to 61), $12 for children (ages 7 to 15) and $21 for seniors (62 years and above).
