Cyclist killed in dump truck crash in DC identified

Police identified the bicyclist who was killed after being struck by a dump truck in D.C.

Michael Gordon, 65, of D.C., was on a bike on the sidewalk traveling northbound on the 1500 block of 7th Street Northwest around 2:30 a.m. Friday. The driver of a dump truck was also traveling northbound on the block.

At the intersection of 7th Street and Rhode Island Avenue, the dump truck began to make a right turn on a green light at the same time that the bicyclist entered the crosswalk from the sidewalk. The driver of the truck struck the Gordon, who went underneath. He had significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
