Driver killed, another injured in Suitland crash

Police in Prince George’s County, Maryland, say a head-on collision killed one driver and seriously injured the other.

The crash happened in the 3500 block of Regency Parkway in Suitland at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.



Police said, for an unknown reason, one of the drivers crossed the double yellow line, hitting the other driver.

One of the drivers, Shanya Hoover, 20, of Suitland, died at the scene.

Officials said the other driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Regency Parkway remained closed between Hil-Mar Drive and Stoney Meadows Drive for several hours due to the crash investigation.

Northwestern HS boys soccer team DQ’d from Md. state playoffs

The boys' soccer team from Northwestern High School, in Prince George's County, Maryland, has been disqualified from competing in this year's state playoffs after county officials said the Wildcats used an ineligible player during the season. The school system's Office of Athletics received an anonymous email concerning a player on the Wildcats roster, spokesperson Meghan Gebreselassie told WTOP. An investigation determined that Northwestern fielded an ineligible player during the season and in its regional semifinal playoff match on Oct. 28.
