An inmate died at the jail in Prince George’s County, Maryland, on Monday, in an apparent stabbing.
The inmate was found in his cell “going in and out of consciousness with multiple puncture wounds,” a Prince George’s County Department of Corrections spokesman said.
After performing CPR, emergency crews pronounced the inmate dead. The department of corrections is working with Prince George’s County police to investigate what happened.
The county jail spokesman said in a press release on Tuesday that the initial investigation shows that another inmate stabbed the victim with “an unknown object” during an altercation.
According to the release, the killed inmate had been in jail since last August on assault and armed carjacking charges.
The inmate’s identity was not released.
The county’s Department of Corrections’ Office of Professional Responsibility and Legal Affairs plans to work together with Prince George’s County police to investigate this incident, the spokesperson said.
