Rain could still fall in the D.C. area, but the intense thunderstorms that were expected to wallop the D.C. area did not appear.

“Looks like we dodged a bullet here,” Storm Team4’s meteorologist Mike Stinneford said late Tuesday morning, noting the heavy thunderstorms in Delaware and Maryland, which are moving away from the area, as well as storms hovering over West Virginia.

The intense thunderstorms in West Virginia look to be moving south, away from the city and the surrounding area, Stinneford said.

Stinneford said the storms did not reach the region because of a “sandwich of stable air,” that deterred the severe weather.

On the other hand, Ocean City, Maryland on the Eastern Shore is experiencing storms.

Although this round of severe weather did not impact the area, there will be a risk of an isolated shower or thunderstorm this afternoon, Stinneford said.

Later today, temperatures will be in the 80s or low 90s and remain muggy, Stinneford said.

Even though the severe weather missed the area, chances for storms will persist throughout the rest of the workweek.

Wednesday could be partly cloudy with a small chance of an isolated storm in the afternoon with sizzling temperatures near 90.

Storm Team4 meteorologist Ryan Miller said storms will be in the forecast Thursday and Friday, until an expected cold front brings calmer weather by the weekend.

Thursday will be hot with highs again in the 80s and a greater chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms ahead of a cold front.

Nice weather could come this weekend with sunshine, cooler temperatures, and lower humidity.

This afternoon: Partly to mostly cloudy and muggy and the possibility of an isolated shower or storm. Highs in the mid to upper 80s and some lower 90s.

Wednesday: Partly sunny with a 30% chance of isolated storms at night. Highs will be close to 90.

Thursday: Partly sunny with a 40% chance of scattered storms later in the day. Highs will be in the low to mid 80s.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs expected in the low 90s.

Weekend: Sunny and pleasant with low humidity. Highs will hover around 80.
