Woman struck in Alexandria hit-and-run

Fairfax County Police say a woman is in the hospital Monday morning after being hit by a car in Alexandria, Virginia.

It happened after 10 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Little River Turnpike and Oasis Drive.



The car struck the pedestrian, and the driver left the scene.

She was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

Police say they’re searching for a white or silver SUV with damage to its driver’s side.

The department is also investigating if Sunday night’s weather may have been a factor in the crash.

Gas-powered leaf blowers fall out of favor in Fairfax County

Government agencies in Fairfax County, Virginia, said only battery-powered leaf blowers will be purchased moving forward, as the county phases-out the use of gasoline leaf blowers. With the pollution and noise from gas blowers, the county said it wants to lead by example and is encouraging contractors and residents to follow suit.
