1 dead, driver charged in Franconia collision

The Fairfax County police say a woman was killed and three other people were hurt after a car crash in Franconia just after midnight Thursday. The car crashed while heading east on Manchester Boulevard near Silver Lakes Boulevard just before 12:30 a.m. when it left the roadway and crashed into a telephone pole, the Fairfax County police said in a statement.

Police said Thursday afternoon that Danight Girmay, 20, of Lorton, the passenger in the front seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Sara Flores, 20, of Lorton, and the two men in the back seat of the car were taken to a hospital. All are expected to survive. The police said Flores will be served with a warrant for driving under the influence when she’s released from the hospital. They said speed was likely also a factor. Police did not provide the ages of the victims and said the crash is under investigation. The area near the crash has been closed.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This story has been updated to indicate the person who died was a woman, as well as the sexes of the other injured people, based on corrected information sent by the police.
