Shooting near Capital One Arena injures bus driver

A Metro bus driver was hurt during a shooting Sunday night near Capital One Arena, according to a Metro spokesperson. The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday — 30 minutes into a Wizards game at the arena — near the intersection of 7th and H street N.W. The bus driver wasn’t hit by a bullet, but they were injured by broken glass. Paramedics treated the driver at the scene, the Metro spokesperson said. WTOP was unable to confirm any other injuries from gunfire in the proximity of the arena. D.C. police were contacted for comment but did not respond ahead of publication. An announcement alerted fans to “police activity” near the arena as well.

Officials say that investigations into the shooting are ongoing. WTOP’s Juan Herrera and Lauren Hamilton contributed to this report.

Road closures for Cherry Blossom runs this weekend

Runners will once again congregate in downtown D.C. for a series of cherry blossom-themed runs Sunday, which means you should plan around road closures. The much shorter Children's Run was held around the National Building Museum on Saturday. The routes for the 10-mile and 5K run/walk overlap on Sunday, and will be concentrated along roads by the Tidal Basin, East Potomac Park and the eastern portion of the Lincoln Memorial.
