Fire on Crystal City’s 23rd Street restaurant row caused $1.8 million in damages

The Arlington, Virginia, Fire and EMS Department on Monday said the fire on Crystal City’s South 23rd Street restaurant row Saturday night caused more than $1.8 million in damages. The fire started around 10 p.m. and witnesses reported heavy smoke in the 500 block of South 23rd Street, in the building where Andalusia Hookah Bar and Top Thai restaurant are located.

The department tweeted just before midnight that the two-alarm structure fire was extinguished.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

‘Particularly vigilant’ — Reston church damaged, Arlington diocese says parishes are ‘alert’

Fairfax County Police say an investigation into graffiti and arson at a Reston, Virginia, church is underway, as reaction to a divisive Supreme Court ruling that overturned landmark abortion cases continues. "The remarks spray painted were related to the recent Supreme Court Roe v. Wade ruling," the department said. "Officers are working with the staff of the church to review surveillance footage."
