1 arrested in shooting of Riverdale Park officer

Police in Maryland arrested a man Tuesday in connection with the shooting of a Riverdale Park Police officer, Riverdale Park Police Chief David C. Morris confirmed to WTOP.

Josue Albarran-Dominguez, 20, of Riverdale, is charged with assault, gun offenses and several additional charges. He’s custody and being held on a no-bond status.

The officer, who was shot during an exchange of gunfire in Prince George’s County Monday night, has been released from the hospital.



The shooting occurred around 9:45 p.m. near Riverdale Road and 58th Avenue.

The pursuit ended at East West Highway and Taylor Road in Riverdale Park.

According to authorities, Albarran-Dominguez and another suspect fired at officers, striking a Riverdale Park officer. Officers returned fire.

Police said Albarran-Dominguez also shot at a Greenbelt City officer and struck the officer’s cruiser.

Around 2 a.m., a Bladensburg officer saw Albarran-Dominguez in the area of 57th Avenue and Emerson Street. After a short foot chase, Albarran-Dominguez was arrested. He was armed with a hand gun at the time, police said.

The second suspect is still being sought.

Maryland Athletics lifts indoor mask mandate at home games

The University of Maryland Athletics Department ended its indoor mask policy for fans at home games Monday night. According to a news release, the decision comes in conjunction with the university's decision to lift its indoor mask mandate on campus for all faculty, staff, students and visitors.
