Police officer shot in gunfire exchange in Prince George’s Co.

A police officer was shot during an exchange of gunfire in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Monday night.

According to Riverdale Park Police, the incident occurred at about 9:47 p.m. near Riverdale Road and 58th Avenue. 

Officers observed a car driving through the area as they suspected it was involved in a shooting. As they tried to stop the vehicle, it attempted to flee the scene. 

Officers placed stop strips near the suspect, causing the car to stop on East-West Boulevard at Taylor Road. Two suspects left the vehicle and shot at the officers before fleeing on foot. 

One officer was shot during the shooting and taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was released after midnight Tuesday. 

The officer was taken to a local hospital in stable condition

Authorities did not report any other injuries.

Police are on the lookout for two suspects, but descriptions were not released.

Play ball: Local baseball community rallies behind Prince George’s Co. high school after dugout fire

As the sun beamed down on Riverdale, Maryland, after school one day earlier this month, Parkdale High School senior Jabari Michael put on his baseball cap and began to stretch. However, instead of wearing his cleats onto the baseball field at Parkdale, the senior kept his tennis shoes on and started to jog on the hardwood of the basketball court. With days remaining before the start of the high school baseball season, Michael and his Panther teammates are stuck inside the gym for preseason workouts after a fire burned their home dugout to the ground leaving the squad with a damaged field and no equipment.
