Man involved in crash killed by hit-and-run driver in Upper Marlboro

A driver involved in a crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Sunday night was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver as he exchanged information outside his vehicle.

Maryland State Police said it happened shortly after 7:20 p.m. on eastbound Central Avenue west of Campus Way in Upper Marlboro.



Police said two people, who police said were involved in a crash prior to the hit and run, were outside of their vehicles exchanging information along Central Avenue.

That’s when police said the driver of an unknown third vehicle struck the victim and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Police added that the man’s identity is being withheld until their family can be notified.

A D.C. man was sentenced Friday to 52 and a half years in prison for sexually abusing three children — including an infant. Matthew Stitt Johnson, 34, plead guilty on Aug. 29, 2022, to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count second-degree child sexual abuse with aggravating circumstances for abusing three minor children, according to a Friday news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.
