Driver killed in Fairfax Co. crash

One person is dead after a crash early Sunday in McLean, Virginia, according to Fairfax County police.

Police said the lone driver of the car left the roadway on Dolley Madison Boulevard, near Waverly Way, crashing into the woods.

The driver died at the scene.

Northbound Va. Route 123/Dolley Madison Boulevard was closed for about three hours. The WTOP Traffic Center reports the roadway reopened around 7 a.m. Sunday following a crash investigation.

Two people are fighting for their lives after nine others, including children, were sent to the hospital when several residents jumped or climbed out windows during an accidental apartment fire in Herndon, Virginia, on Thursday evening. Fairfax County fire officials said the flames began started in a three-story garden apartment on Park Avenue and were caused by an electrical event. Dozens of firefighters arrived on the scene around 6 p.m.
