FAQ: Pediatrician on what risks school children face from COVID-19 delta variant

The timing isn’t great.

As school kids head back to classrooms for in-person learning five days a week, the nation — including the D.C. region — is seeing an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases attributed to the more infectious delta variant.

WTOP asked pediatrician John Farrell, of South Riding Pediatrics, about the risks. Farrell chairs the Loudoun County Health Commission, which advises the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors on health issues and policy.

Md. vaccine policy ‘will be led by science’: New law decouples guidance from federal agencies

As of July 1, Maryland will determine which vaccines should be administered, severing its reliance on federal agencies, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Vax Act, signed Tuesday by Gov. Wes Moore, authorizes Maryland's health secretary to set recommendations for immunizations, screenings and preventive services. It also requires insurance companies to cover vaccines endorsed by the state.
